Free Broadband - Does it Exist?

Do free broadband plans really exist? Believe it or not, yes!

Now that Australia has 3G networks, some ISPs can deliver wireless broadband access as part of a phone and internet 'bundle'. In other words, for one low monthly phone payment, you also get free broadband.

And when we say 'low monthly phone payment', that's exactly what we mean. A bundled home phone package and internet bill could be significantly less than you're currently paying for a home phone, alone. In fact, some households may cut their phone bill in half and get free broadband, to boot!

Of course, free broadband as part of a bundled phone plan is only really free if the phone plan lives up to your expectations on its own terms. Otherwise, you'll end up using - and paying for - another landline or mobile phone. Your bundled home phone mustn't echo or make you sound like you're at the end of a very long tunnel. You have to get the same phone clarity that you get from your mobile with a reputable provider in a good coverage area. For this, you need a broadband network with nationwide coverage and a modem that doesn't make voice compete with data when it leaves your phone.

So, if you're after free broadband, don't just limit your search to companies advertising it using the words 'free broadband', or 'free internet access'. Instead, add up your total current phone and Internet bill, and then look for a bundled deal for the same price as your current phone bill (or less).
