BYO Modem

So, you decided to Bring Your Own Modem to the Pre-Paid Mobile Broadband party. Nice!

Of course, by 'modem', we mean it could either be a USB modem that you plug into your computer, or a wireless data card, or a modem that's already built into your laptop.

Make sure your modem has the following:

1) 900MHz and/or 2100MHz frequencies
In either case, to access the entire Optus 3G/HSPA network your modem will need to work on both the 900MHz and 2100MHz frequencies (most metro areas are covered by 2100MHz so a 2100MHz frequency should work fine for most people).

2) Network Unlocked
You'll also need to check whether your BYO modem is locked to another network. If so, you will need to contact your previous service provider to unlock it.

3) Has a SIM Card slot
Simple really, a slot for your SIM card.

Unfortunately we can't offer full technical support to every modem available. So if you have decided to BYO modem bear in mind that, if you do require certain technical support, we will refer you back to the equipment manufacturer.
